Hi, friends! I’m so happy you are joining me on this tour around our modern farmhouse-style living room! We definitely live in a modest sized home. At least according to today’s standards. With 1600 square feet, our home is just right for our family. But it does require that I get creative with storage and maintain a minimalistic lifestyle overall. Which is just fine with me!
If you’re more of a video person, make sure to head over to my YouTube channel where I shared a full tour of our living room + a peak inside our organizational systems as well!
I’ve included a source list including links at the bottom of this post.
Modern Farmhouse Living Room Tour
Let’s start by taking a look at our entryway. We have a very open concept living space. So when you walk into our home, we’ve tried to create an entryway by strategically placing furniture. This functions really well for us. Our shoes cabinet is directly beside our front door. This houses our family’s most worn shoes, our keys, sunglasses, some spare change, and our stamps. I love that everything is nicely tucked away.
My grandmother’s piano sits beside our shoe cabinet. To the left of the piano is our door to our garage.
On the other side of the doorway, is the back of our Ikea Ektorp sectional sofa. We created more store and defined the space by building a sofa table. We used these plans from Ana White, but made alterations to fit our space. The top of our sofa table is used for decoration. We store our family Bibles on one shelf. The bottom two baskets hold our winter scarves, gloves, and hats and our classic children’s books.
As you walk around the sofa into our living space, you’ll see our seating is very conversational. We have two chairs plus a sectional sofa that allows for plenty of seating to enjoy as a family or with guests.
We built our end tables using these plans from Ana White. I love to use woven baskets for hidden storage! These Threshold baskets from Target are great for storing children’s books. The left table holds homeschooling items we use each morning on our couch. The right basket houses our seasonal children’s books.
Our gray storage ottoman is from Target and houses a some snuggly blankets we use more often in the fall and winter.
On the opposite side, we have our television mounted on the wall. We use the Hemnes Sideboard underneath as storage. It’s the perfect place to store our family’s board games. Our DVDs, video games, children’s Bibles, and devotions are stored in the 3 middle drawers.
