Super Simple & Inexpensive Christmas Wrap Organization

The following is a guest post about super simple & inexpensive Christmas wrap organization from regular contributor, Kristin at The Gold Project

Over the years, I have tried so many different organization systems for my gift wrapping rolls of paper. I have done more research in this area than I care to share too. Overall, I have tried at least four different systems since 2014 and I finally feel like I have found the one that will work for me for the long haul.

Let me just say that just because the pictures look amazing online does not mean it is going to work in your home. The Internet gave me many different and creative ideas. Some of them I tried and failed, even though they looked visually appealing. Functional does not always equal Pinterest-worthy.

In this post, I wanted to take you through all of the gift wrapping organization systems that I have used since 2014 and what I’m currently using now. Since it is Christmas time and wrapping presents is on a lot of people’s minds, I thought it would be the perfect time to share it. And, maybe one of the systems I’ve tried may inspire you as well.

My first attempt involved a neat wall system from The Container Store. I think it is the Elfa brand. It is what my wrapping paper organization system looked like in 2014 before we moved. I thought this was going to be a great system, but I didn’t like the fact that the organizer was on the wall. And, I didn’t realize that fact until after it was placed on the wall.

I wanted to have the flexibility to move around my house and wrap presents. Many times, I will lay all of my wrapping paper and supplies out on the living room floor and wrap presents. I like to turn on a movie, pour a cup of coffee, and wrap gifts. With the organizer being stationed on the wall, this was not going to be an easy task.

After this failed attempt, I tried a DIY gift wrapping caddy. I turned an old bar stool upside down, added wheels, and stored my wrapping paper.

The main issue with this system is probably very evident from the photos. The fact that the wrapping paper could slide through the holes at any given moment was very frustrating to me. And, I think I wrestled with keeping the wrapping paper contained more than I actually used it. So, once again, my system failed and I was back to researching new systems.

Due to my frustration, I decided to just put the wrapping paper in some random aluminum tub in my home. I do not even think I have any pictures of it because it was that bad. It was actually an ice bucket for beverages. Not a good system at all for wrapping paper. The wrapping paper was bigger than the bucket and continuously got ripped on the edges.

It remained there until this fall when I had a lightbulb moment.

I originally wanted to find a tall trash can to place my wrapping paper in. Before committing to something online, though, I wanted to go to the actual store myself and look. Best decision ever because I stumbled down the laundry organization aisle and spotted the perfect laundry hamper for the job.

This rolling hamper was only $12.00 from Wal-Mart. It is a very generous size, easy to roll, and within my budget.

What I learned from this entire process is to be patient. Sometimes, a system might be perfect on pictures, but it isn’t perfect in reality. And, what works for one person may not work for others. I think sometimes people feel like you should organize an area and it is done. That is not always the case. And, sometimes a system might be good, but a better one is still out there.

I would love for you to share your wrapping paper system with us. I am always looking for new organization ideas, especially for wrapping supplies.
