Simple & Inexpensive Car Organization ~ Organize with Pouches

Recently I posted about the BEST way to organize your purse in your car. I shared the coolest product to help you do that and then as well shared a few ways to organize the rest of your car. What I totally wasn’t expecting was how much attention the pouches I have in my car got. Many of you sure were invested in how I organize with pouches! Even my sister texted me to say “tell me more about your pouches!”. Wait what? Not everyone does this? I had no idea! The concept is so simple y’all. But now that I know you all want more info, well then that’s what I’m going to give you. In today’s post I’ll walk you through the pouches I use in my car organization and where I got them from. The people have spoken!

Okay so let’s back up for those that maybe didn’t read my car organization post. Here are a few pictures of some of the various ways I organize with pouches in my car.

These small sizes are so perfect for purses too!

Pouches are a dream to organize with because they instantly keep like things grouped together. This makes it so easy to quickly find what you need without having to dig through a pile of stuff. Have I ever told you that I hate digging through piles? It is such a huge pet peeve of mine. It just wastes so much unnecessary time. So instead I use my lovely pouches to keep everything organized and my sanity intact. It really works!

But I really feel like I have to take a moment to confess something to you. When my sister texted me to ask me where I get all my pouches, I told her “from my pouches drawer, duh!”. Then I quickly realized that my crazy was showing and that perhaps not everyone has a pouches drawer like I do. Does that make me crazy or you? Ha! Just kidding I’m fully aware of where I hit on the crazy scale :). In fact what I have is a large collection of “pouches in waiting” in a large plastic drawer in my office Armoire. And whenever I need a pouch I simply go searching through my stash. However now that I’ve bared my soul and confessed this to you, and before I show you said stash, please know that I am not recommending you immediately start hording pouches.

A collection of this size is ridiculous, I AM AWARE. So as always I use my lessons and addictions to steer you in the right direction. You’re welcome.

Okay so now that I’ve got my confession out of the way, let’s get into where I find all my pouches to organize all the things. And the first thing you need to know is that they don’t need to cost a lot of money. Thrift stores are the greatest place to find pouches in all sorts of sizes and colors.

Value Village has them hanging up in a tidy row and there are so many to choose from!

Look at all the variety from pencil cases to cosmetic bags in every imaginable shape and size.

Here’s what’s available at my local thrift store for only fifty cents a piece. How can you go wrong?

Thrift stores are the perfect place for finding great quality bags at a lower price point. Like this Lug bag I found.

The dollar store also has a good selection of inexpensive cosmetic bags and pencil cases.

This pineapple one below is so cute! Why don’t I own it yet? ?

This time of year is an especially good time to check out all the pencil cases available for back to school. Here’s what I found at my local Walmart. Isn’t this mess ridiculous though?!

Often these items go on sale after the back to school rush.

The majority of my pouches come from the above places. I just always keep my eyes open for them. Take your organization to the next level and CONTAIN, CONTAIN, CONTAIN. I hope you hear me saying that to you the next time you go to the thrift store, ha!

After advising my sister that “yes she most definitely needed some pouches in her life”, she immediately went out to her dollar store and bought all of these! I’ve never been more proud :). And look she bought the pineapple one!

For the most part, size is the most important thing you want to look out for. Consider the things you need to store in your car and that will help you determine the size of pouch you need. Just be sure to always check that the zipper works well.

So there is one type of pouch that is consistently hard to find. Clear pouches! I’ve searched for years for the perfect one and in the process purchased many a lousy one too. That’s annoying! But my long time search finally paid off when I found this one below from Amazon. A clear pouch that is thinner in size so it lays flat. Perfect for in the car for papers and such. I recently switched out some of my car pouches for these ones. They are the perfect size and I love the front zipper. Currently available on Amazon.ca but out of stock on Amazon.com right now unfortunately. I’ll update this post as soon as they become available again on the US site. Sorry about that.

This one holds my fast food coupons.

Look how thin it is, yet it does expand quite a bit.

I used another one for my car trash bags. I reuse small bags that I get from random purchases.
