This Kickstarter Project Solves the Most Annoying Thing About Duvets
If you don’t wash your duvet cover as often as you should, you’re not alone. Getting that comforter in and out of its cover is probably one of the most annoying parts about doing laundry.
Thankfully, industrial designers Ben King and Luke Gray have found an innovative solution, a duvet cover called Koa. With over double its Kickstarter goal already raised, the patent-pending design simplifies the task by adding a zipper in the middle, removing the need to wrestle your sheets or climb inside them.
Here’s how it works: Simply unzip, tuck in the duvet, and zip back up. Yes, it’s that easy. It also comes with anti-bunching ties in each corner to hold the duvet in place. The zipper, meanwhile, is soft, so it won’t bother your sleep (plus, it’s hidden underneath an extra flap of fabric).
“Koa is the first duvet cover designed to make changing the bed easier, quicker and simpler,” said King and Gray, who tested more than 30 prototypes before arriving at the final design. “Koa’s inventive central opening makes the corners easy to reach and is designed so that there’s no climbing inside, heavy lifting, awkward stuffing, shaking or fiddly buttons.”
According to the co-founders, they came up with the idea for Koa when they learned that Gray’s grandmother had stopped changing the duvet cover because it was just too much of a hassle. When they conducted a study, they found that most people feel the same frustration.
“Climbing into fresh, soft sheets is one of the best feelings—77% of people in our survey said they sleep better on fresh sheets—but changing the bed is one of the most hated chores,” added Gray. “We’re on a mission to take the hassle out of changing the bed and make fresh sheets more delightful.”
Koa is available in full, queen, and king sizes, with prices starting at $85. Higher reward tiers also include matching pillowcases with an easy load opening. The first batch of duvet covers are expected to arrive in November of this year. You can learn more about Koa by checking out the Kickstarter campaign page here.
