Airbnb Lists 18th Century Villa in Italy
published about 1 hour ago
A historic 18th century villa located in the Italian region of Lombardy is Airbnb’s latest rental offering—one fit for those aching to live out their royal fantasies. The villa, available for £1,200 a night (which roughly translates to about $1,570 U.S. dollars), is now available—and it can host about 16 guests with a whopping 10 bedrooms, 18 beds, eight bathrooms, two libraries, a garden with a swimming pool, a lush park surrounding the villa, and many other features. (And, yes, renters get the entire villa to themselves during their stay.)
Inside of the yellow-painted villa, antique furniture, stucco-decorated ceilings, French double doors, Venetian marble, ancient durmast oak flooring, and other period finishes give it the ultimate villa feel, transporting guests back to a different century. With its grand staircases and old fireplaces, renters (or fans of Netflix’s “The Crown”) will be able to channel their inner royalty. Located in the heart of the countryside, the regal residence is also less than an hour from Milan and a short distance from Como and Lecco. There’s also a housekeeper on call to assist guests with cleaning, security, and whatever else they may need.
According to the host, the villa’s origins date back to the 1400s. It was once an ancient monastery, but after the passing of several centuries, an architect named Alberico Barbiano di Belgiojoso renovated the structure with design modifications and accents more indicative of the 18th century. More so, the villa has real-life royal ties. The location is a sister villa of the renowned Villa Mapelli Mozzi, owned by developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, a member of Italy’s oldest aristocratic families—and the husband of Princess Beatrice, Queen Elizabeth II’s grandchild. The two recently wed in July.
