The World’s Last Blockbuster on Airbnb

Remember those Friday nights when you’d invite your best pals over for a sleepover and spend a good hour roaming the aisles of Blockbuster trying to find the perfect movie to rent? The nostalgia is strong. Now, thanks to Airbnb host and manager of the world’s last Blockbuster store, Sandi Harding, you can relive this childhood moment (with VHS tapes included).

“Dust off those membership cards for a sleepover inside the world’s last BLOCKBUSTER,” the Airbnb listing reads. “When you call dibs on this stay, you’re booking a night back in the 90s, but this time you won’t have to beg your parents to rent the latest horror flick—we’ll give you the keys to the entire store!”

As a wise tween once sang, “Hey now, hey now. This is what dreams are made of!”

Harding is letting three groups of Blockbuster customers spend a night in the last remaining movie rental location in Bend, Oregon. These ‘90s-themed sleepovers will take place over three days, from Sept. 18 through 20, and those who partake will be given the keys to the store and have free rein to watch any classic flick of their choosing.

“Over the past few months, we’ve been missing the regular visits from friends, neighbors and tourists from around the world,” the listing continues. “So, we’re opening our store to three quarantine pods of Deschutes County guests for a socially-distanced movie night, just like those of decades past!”

The store will be rearranged around a viewing lounge complete with a pull-out couch, bean bags, pillows, Pepsi, popcorn, pizza, and candy. “And remember, the store is all yours for the night!” the listing reads. “So let loose, blast the boombox and wear your favorite ‘90s denim so that you feel right at home in another era.”

From check in to check out, the store is completely yours. Harding and the Blockbuster crew will provide free face coverings, disinfectant wipes, and hand sanitizer to ensure the safety of each group of guests during the ongoing pandemic.

The world’s last Blockbuster is available to book on Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. PDT over on the listing page, and all three nights are first-come, first-serve. A maximum of four people can stay per night and each night costs only $4 (the price of a standard movie rental from Blockbuster). Even though you might really be missing certain friends and family members, this sounds like a great way to mix things up and get out of the house with your roommates, kids, or quarantine pod.
