Hear ye, hear ye, all pet owners: Crown & Paw, a pet goods brand, creates custom 19th century portraits and Renaissance-era paintings of our furry best friends. It’s true: pet owners can get custom portraits of their pets’ heads imposed on a variety of bodies to choose from, such as The Count, The Dame, The General, The Noble, and, of course, The King and The Queen, respectively. The result is a portrait that would invoke the great halls of those 19th century mansions occupied by regal monarchs and their butlers. (Perhaps Queen Elizabeth II would be interested in a custom portrait of her corgis for the ornate walls of Buckingham Palace?)
The portraits are currently on sale for $49.95 (original price $59.95), and the customization process is quite simple. Pet owners must upload a photo of their furry companions, then choose from the variety of 19th century and Renaissance-era costumes. Crown & Paw also provides guidelines on how to capture the best pet photos for best results: ones with natural lighting and a close up of pets’ faces at the pet’s face level. Blurry photos with dark lighting won’t suffice. The portraits come with three different size options: 8”x10,” 12”x18,” and 16”x24.”
According to the product (or, “pawduct”) details, each portrait is crafted by a dedicated professional artist on the Crown & Paw team. The portraits are also made with “last-furever” never-fade ink and can be easily hung on the walls with already-attached hooks. The portraits are handcrafted on hardwood with a wooden frame.
Crown & Paw began as a “passion project” between two partners during a trip to Europe, according to its website. The company’s “about” page reads: “We spent a rainy weekend in Amsterdam, riding bicycles down the picturesque canals, eating tasty waffles and pancakes, and visiting some of the most beautiful art galleries in the world, such as the Stedelijk and the Rijksmuseum.” The results? Pawsitively regal pet portraits. Browse Crown & Paw’s full collection online.
