Knoll Hipso Height-Adjustable Desk Rises to the Occasion
With many of us now working from home at least part of the time, Knoll recognized their catalog previously aimed toward company and corporate solutions was lacking in offering affordably priced, well designed work from home furniture for the individual. Knoll partnered with Scandinavian design brand Muuto to serve the WFH set with a collection of furniture solutions, lighting and organization solutions intended to help turn a temporary space into something more permanent.
While most of the catalog is represented by already established designs like the 2011 design ReGeneration by Formway Design alongside some newer home office accoutrements like the Leaf Table Lamp and Oslo Sofa by Swedish design brand, Muuto, it’s the Hipso Height-Adjustable Desk that warrants the most attention for those seeking an affordable and adaptable work surface designed to allow users to easily switch positions throughout the day.
The Knoll-designed, height-adjustable desk is available in three sizes: 45″ x 24″, 51″ x 24″, and 57″ x 30″. All three share dual motors to lift its 1.25″ thick laminate top for standing desk duties. While the smallest desk size is ideal for laptop users, the two larger sizes offer more than adequate surface for a desktop monitor or all-in-one system, accompanied with the usual array of a keyboard and mouse.
In our time testing the Hipso Height-Adjustable Desk provided by Knoll, we were impressed with its smooth and quiet two-button operation; the dual motor layout ensures the desk lifts and drops evenly. Rated for up to 265lb lift-load capacity, the desk is intended to work in conjunction with other ergonomic solutions, like work chairs, monitor arms, and other tech/office accessories for healthy best practices when charged to working from home, and can extend almost twenty additional inches up. We’re not huge work while standing types, but we discovered an unexpected benefit using the Hipso: jumping onto Zoom with the desk set for standing made online interactions feel noticeably more natural – less a fireside chat and more of a workplace conversation.
Noting the Hipso is a very sturdy work surface, with hefty and very stable L-shaped legs, we found assembling the Hipso does require a decent amount of space (and muscle) to piece together what is otherwise a simple design. Knoll underlines the Hipso can be delivered in just 1-3 days upon ordering, and starts at $595 with 6 finishes available.
